"Bone Dust and Beginnings gives the reader a front row seat to how the quest started. An amazingly entertaining cast of characters. One of Ms. White's best yet." - The Review Blog

Alexa is a leader of men. She culled her companions from the dwindling herd of mankind because she sensed they alone might have the strength to make the journey and each battle fought at her side tightens their bonds. For her, their quest is about more than finding a safe place. It's about the search for her missing family.

Long years after the war of 2012 devastated America, a group of survivors has come out of the radiation zones in the West. On an impossible quest to find those who came before them, these warriors follow the remnants of Safe Haven... and let nothing stand in their way.

From the very first page you know this is going to be a fast paced adventure. If you've read any of Angela White's "Life After War" series you'll quickly realize Alexa could be one of Adrian's Eagles, probably his top Eagle. It's really no big surprise to learn she is Adrian' s daughter and processes many of his talents.
Just as Adrian draws together special people with amazing talents in gathering survivors and leading them to a Safe Haven, so does Alexa. She is on a Quest that is similar in that she is looking to find her father in this Safe Haven. However, because of her special talents, she has been held captive by a corrupt part of the Government that seeks to gain control of her and use her as a very special weapon. She has been held for over four years before her escape and the start of her Quest.
As she gathers her crew, she is constantly training and teaching them many special and unique skills as well as bonding them all together and gaining their commitment to the Quest.
This segment, like all of Angela White's books, deserves a five star rating and this one will get it because of the noticeable improvement in editing quality.

Bone Dust Beginnings Book One Angela White Sharon K Maybrier 9781466305403 Books Reviews

Had I not just read five books of the After the War, I might not be as critical of this story as I am. When did Alexa add the convict in Boulder? That scene is missing from the book, and I'm sure the story jumped several adventures. While there were fewer grammar and concept problems than the last of the After the War books, this production lacks some of the intensity of the original series.
I'm a HUGE fan of the "Life After War" (LAW) series and bought this book to tide me over until the next LAW book comes out. "Bone Dust and Beginnings", although set in the same post-apocalyptic world, was much less interesting The main characters are insufficiently developed and lack depth; It is not clear how Alexis got all the skills that she has; There are all sorts of mythical creatures that appear, taking it more towards the realm of fantasy. I certainly will not give up on Angela White, but this book seemed hastily put together and was not up to the standard I find in the LAW series. I do, however, strongly recommend the LAW series and the back stories that accompany it. Thank you, Angela White!
I was very disappointed in this book and also the Killing Fields. . whomever edited these books must have been in a hurry. There were quite a few discrepancies with the characters in different parts of the books. For instance, Mark was supposed to be guarding Brian. . during a fight the author had him with the group fighting. This set of books was not near as well written as the original series. . seems to have been written in haste.
This apocalyptic story about life after a nuclear war was to say the least, different from any other book I have read about after-life of nuclear war. The story went off in tangents at times and I still have no idea what Alexa is. And how do vampires and trolls and strange animals and creatures and magic come into the picture? Mother Nature is a very nasty entity and seems to have come alive and doesn't want humans around her any more. I guess I was expecting a more realistic approach but it was pretty neat about gathering bone dust from the dead people and being able to trade and do things with it. Since it leaves us at a place where the bad guy (Corbin) is finally out of the way....will they finally find Safe Haven? I guess I will have to buy the next book in this series to find out what happens next.
I gave this book 3 stars because the story is good. But there are some issues which take away from the enjoyment of the story. I do think readers would benefit from a prologue that gives more backstory information. Because if you haven't read the Safe Haven series, you'll be completely befuddled. (And I've read all the other books and several times I was asking myself "where did that come from". Vampires, trolls, goblins, didn't see any of those coming. ) There are numerous grammatical errors, which I normally wouldn't method, but these actually hamper reading the story. There are words that don't belong in the middle of sentences, verb tenses that change between the beginning of a sentence and the end of the sentence. Misspellings abound. These things add up and make a great story difficult to read. My suggestion would be to put together an ARC team to help with catching things like these.
This is supposed to be part of Adrian and Angela with Safe Haven but it gets unbelievable. It starts out good with them being descendants of Jesus but turns into fantasy before actually developing that story line. It s actually a good book if you are into vampyres, giant vultu r es and thinking things into happening. If not then skip these,as for me guess I'll read the next one to see hw much more Alexa can cause her pets to do (who calls 6 men my pets)
If you are new to the Alexa's Travels series, "Bone Dust & Beginnings" is the book you want to start with. The author apologizes/explains at the end of this book that "The Mountaineer's (Alexa's Travel's) was published out of order, no worries if you've already read it, it's just that "Bone Dust & Beginnings" is where Alexa's quest actually began and where/how she chooses her group of 6 men known as her fighters and/or "my pets" as she also affectionately calls them. I really enjoy this series and it's also nice that it has a connection to the "Life After War" series(another favorite of mine!). Alexa and her fighters are heading for Safe Haven, not only to find a safe place but also so Alexa can search for her missing family. A nuclear war in 2012 had devastated the world, in "Bone Dust & Beginnings" Alexa is traveling with 4 "fighters" and as she continues on her quest she will add in others. Along the way they run into very interesting characters, including a troll named Jendon, there are battles, lessons, and also some magic! "Bone Dust & Beginnings" immediately draws you in and I found it hard to put down. I can't wait for the next book in the series to see what adventures are in store for Alexa and her "pets"!
