It is a wise and practical guide for any transgender person considering or embarking on a gender transition. It covers everything from the beginning stages of exploration and planning through the process of transformation to life after transition. This is the first book written by an experienced professional specifically for transgender clients. It will also be of interest to family, friends, allies, clergy, teachers, helping professionals and anyone who cares about the challenges faced by those who seek to change their physical appearance to match their gender identity.
The Transgender Guidebook Keys to a Successful Transition eBook Anne L Boedecker
I read this book thoroughly a few months before I began hormones, which was recently. It was very well written and offered a lot of information about the transition process, organized from beginning to end of the process so to speak, so it's great for anyone who is beginning or for those who aren't transgender but want to know more about it. It is a guidebook as the title says. The medical information was relevant and consistent with what my doctor has explained. My only problem that it constantly affirms the notion that being transgender means stigma, meanness towards you, or that your life will be more difficult because of your decision because of society or something. So far my experience has been totally different. My family and friends have been very supportive and it has actually been really nice. I feel better than I have ever felt before. I have fun going clothes shopping with woman friends. I even went to a friend's bachelor party as my true self- around 14 guys half of whom I didn't know- and we had one of the greatest weekends ever. It's like I feel so good and if someone wants to call me name or scowl at me aren't they the one who is unhappy? They can keep that. So I wish the book talked more about how much better your life can be instead of worrying what a bunch of prudes may think about you. Just like I only hear the older generation say things about race, LGBT 'non acceptance' will die with those miserable old farts. The new generation is mostly accepting and awesome. There are plenty of people here to give you what you need. Balance between the extremes of fear and pride and you're set.

The Transgender Guidebook Keys to a Successful Transition eBook Anne L Boedecker Reviews
This is an excellent overview of the world of transgender transitioning. Ms. Boedecker 'lays it on the line', with clear, accessible information about what the world of transsexuality actually looks and feels like, and what 'crossing into the other gender' is really all about. She makes it clear (for anyone who didn't know this already) that the transition is no bowl of cherries, and that making the 'full transition' -- hormones, electrolysis, GRS, facial feminization surgery, etc. -- is a decision that needs a lot of thought before being entered and pursued. And she offers other options, should an individual chose not to 'go all the way', but stop at some clear 'way stations', which might feel equally as real and comfortable, without all the physical, emotional, sexual, and spiritual demands (or fulfillments, depending on ones perspective) that 'batting for the other team' entails. Highly recommended book!!
This book is a must for anyone transitioning or thinking of transitioning, as well as any psychotherapist who works with the transgendered community. It covers all the phases with a sympathetic view and realistic information. Kudos to Dr. Boedecker.
This is an excellent guide, a road map of sorts, to guide you through your journey to become your true self.
This book was a great help in my plotting my own course to finally become Alana.
I will add though, for those of you just beginning your journey. You can read about it, watch videos about it, listen to others talk about it. But until you are there yourself, you cannot know what it is like. Everyone's journey is a little bit different, as we are each unique individuals. And transitioning is about a million times more complex than I ever imagined. I tell you this, not to discourage you, but to better prepare you. It is a wonderful journey, just don't rush it. Take baby steps, and live YOUR life to its fullest. And always, always, Love yourself!
Wonderful book. I'm a transwoman who is about to start therapy, in part to this book and some other online resources. There really isn't anything in here that you can't find out from reading online, but that's not the point. There are a whole lot of great content in the book that really does lay some things out. Some books babble on about this and that, but this never tends to stick to one subject longer than it needs to, so you never really get bored.
Highly recommend to transwoman everywhere. Do yourself a favor and get this book.
This is perhaps the most comprehensive books I have read (and re-read! and taken notes in!) on transgender transition. It's not a narrative of one-person's experiences; it's a step-by-step handbook that a person can continue to refer to throughout his/her entire transtion. Using the metaphor of an "epic quest," Dr. Boedecker explains all facets of transition (for both MTF and FTM), from coming out to friends and family, relationships, fashion advice, all the way through to gender reassignment surgery... all with an objective point of view that does not judge or belittle the reader. She explains every step using easy to understand anecdotes from her own experiences as a therapist assisting gender dysphoric clients. Even if you are just looking to start your transition, or are in mid-transition (like me) and looking for validation for the next step in your quest, this is an incredible guidebook... a must read for the TG community and their allies!
